Our first meeting will be held on site where we will discuss the opportunities and constraints of your site. We will also discuss the scope of your project, design fees and develop a set of expectations for each other.
As part of our conversations we will explore your preferences in style and function. Do you like formal, straight lines or natural curves? We will discuss your specific needs and how you plan to use the space. We will also take into consideration the architectural style of the house, site features, off-site factors that may influence the design. We typically request the homeowner provide a site survey, house plans, and any other site information available. Most people have a copy of their survey in the closing documents for their house but we can arrange surveying services if you do not have one. We will also conduct our own on-site exploration, taking additional measurements and pictures.
Once we have gathered all the facts we will analyze the site information to see where it leads the design. In garden design, form follows function but it also follows site features!
Depending on the size and complexity of the project we may recommend a conceptual design before moving to the final master plan. This ensures that we are on the same page and that you will be thrilled with the design. More often, however, we can take the information from our discussions and the site information to create a plan you’ll love right from the start. This streamlined approach allows you to see the finished product in the ground sooner with less design expense.
Once the design is complete we will gladly go through the design in as little or as much detail as you would like. We will discuss any changes you prefer (which can often be done in the field, again saving time and money.)
After the design is complete and you have approved it, we will provide a complete estimate for construction. Providing pricing only after the design is complete ensures that you have a complete and accurate picture of the project costs. For those who prefer to implement their project in phases we can provide guidance and phased budgets.
Here’s where the real fun begins! When the design and budget are approved we will work to complete your installation as quickly and professionally as possible. We offer a full range of construction services to cover virtually any exterior need. We are fully insured and our workmen strive to have minimal impact on your daily life as we complete your garden. When we’re all finish we make sure to leave your property cleaner than we found it.
Ongoing care and maintenance of your new garden is key to maximizing your enjoyment. We can recommend maintenance options and offer periodic maintenance consultations just in case you really miss seeing us!
"What a wonderful space you have created, and I love the lighting! You made some good choices from a water conservation perspective, too. I can see that the turf area was reduced once the trees were added and the shade-tolerant ornamental grasses and shrubs are good choices for the area, and you'd be amazed how many questions we get about what to put in the shade. I'm glad to see that you decided to mulch around the trees instead of constantly battling the shade to try and get grass to grow."
